Our Moab Retreat”
was a treat
for all. Even the
weather was at its best with comfortable
riding temperatures; .Highs of 90 degrees.
That is cool here in August by -10 degrees.
I would like to thank The following
hosts:
John and Sena Hauer for hosting our ride on Thursday
Mary Kelling
owner of Western Image for creating
a delightful evening of a bygone era of western life at its best on Saturday
night. Thanks for the treats.
The
Overlook Art Gallery for an evening of Western Art, especially
creative were the
watercolor paintings by Don Weller. His
paintings were of
local folk on their
horses…Don has been the featured
artist doing the posters for the Cowboy Poetry Festival held in Moab
each year in mid February.
Dr.John Harris, Bonnie Harris, Jennifer Harris and
Farrier Dwight Marney for their
very informative clinic on “Shoeing from
a DVM Point of View.”
Retreat & Trail
Ride Report
Friday we rode “Behind the
Rocks”. A new name was created by Nancy Black, one of our guest riders,
for a large group of like rock formations -”Beehive Village.”
Friday evening we dined with our guest presenters Dr. John
Harris and Dwight Marney. We also celebrate, long time area horse
trainer, Ethel Krist’s birthday on 8-8-08.
Saturday we rode the
“Red Rock Trail” from Old Spanish Trail Arena to “Johnson’s on Top.”
Our clinic “Shoeing from a DVM Point of View” was well attended. The presentation of Dr. Harris was enlightening and drew many question, which were
answered so well, we all were ready to listen some more. We gained more
information with the shoeing
presentation by Dwight Marney that provided hands on application to the clinic.
There were four local shoers in attendance and
the discussions and questions were
eye-opening for all of us. They went away with a good
information which will benefit all of us.
After the clinic, dinner was
waiting. Terry Delay, manager and Old Spanish Trail Arena host had a Dutch Oven Stew
dinner waiting for all -Thanks Terry.
Last Month’s
Meeting
Last month’s meeting was at James Dixon’s aka Castle Valley
Ranch. The sunset was spectacular as it
lit up Castle Rock, the outdoor BBQ
was scrumptious, and the horse
stories entertaining. James gave us a tour of his young performance horses and
we had a chance to talk training points of view.
Thanks James!!!
