BCHU hosted the first Leave No Trace Train-the Trainer Course (Stock) at Hardware Ranch on Aug. 8-10, 2008. The Attendees were Ray Smith MR chapter Vice Chairman(Plan Ahead and Prepare), Fred Leslie BCHU President (Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces), Linda Thomas DWR (Respect Wildlife), Gary Bean WD chapter (Noxious Weed Control), Bev Heffernan MR Chapter President (Be Considerate of Other Visitors), LB Dunn SW chapter (Trail Etiquette), Marni Lee DWR (Bear Precautions and Leave What You Find), Wayne Ludington SR & BLM (Minimize Campfire Impacts), Linda Morrison HU chapter (LNT and the Front Country), John Harrison WF chapter. The Leave No Trace Master Educators, Terry Morrison, Craig Allen and Carol Lang presented the Stock Containment and Dispose of Waste Properly principles of LNT. Everyone had a LNT principle to present to the group. Each presentation was very unique and well done! The format for each individual to present a principle was to provide a more hands on learning experience and to practice presenting LNT principles to a group. Everyone did a Great Job with their demonstrations!

The LNT (Stock) course started class bright and early on Friday, in the Hardware Ranch Visitor Center with an overview of Leave No Trace principles and our mission as LNT trainers. We ate a great lunch provided by cook Jim Meyer and John Harrison. We then loaded up in a tractor driven wagon up to our LNT camp site. At the camp, we continued the LNT presentations and practiced the LNT principles throughout the weekend. We graduated our first 10 LNT Trainers and they are ready to give 30 minute to 1 day workshops on Leave No Trace principles. It is our goal as LNT Master Educators to incorporate the LNT principles throughout the State of Utah. If we can do that we will be able to camp in places that will seem like we were the first ones there. You can get more information about Leave No Trace from www.LNT.org.
